Give Your Old PC New Life: Zero-Metadata, Zero-Cookie Linux Upgrade — Secure, Fast, Private (Only $200–$300)
Is your older laptop or desktop lagging, cluttered with telemetry, and quietly leaking data to trackers and advertisers? It doesn’t have to be that way. We offer a complete, hands-on service that transforms aging machines into fast, private, and secure workhorses using a privacy-first Linux upgrade: a “zero-metadata / zero-cookie” approach that stops data harvest and helps you regain control of your digital life — all for a straightforward $200–$300 (scope-dependent).
What we mean by “zero-metadata / zero-cookie”
“Zero” is an aspirational shorthand — absolute elimination of all metadata is extremely difficult across every network and service. Our approach minimizes the creation and sharing of metadata and eliminates cookie-based tracking on the device itself by:
Removing browser and app cookies, trackers, and third‑party scripts.
Disabling telemetry and automatic data reporting in the OS and applications.
Using privacy-first network tooling (Tor/DoH, optional privacy VPNs) to reduce traceability.
Enforcing disk encryption and ephemeral sessions where appropriate to reduce stored metadata.
We’re explicit about limits: websites and remote services can still create server-side logs. Our job is to stop your machine from adding additional metadata and make your activity far harder to link back to you.
What the service includes (end-to-end)
Full hardware & health check (battery, disks, RAM, temps).
Backup or secure data-migration options (local or encrypted external backup).
Clean install of a lightweight, privacy-focused Linux distribution tuned for older hardware.
Lockdown and hardening:
Disable telemetry and vendor “phoning-home.”
Enable full-disk encryption and secure-boot compatible setup where possible.
Harden user accounts, sudo, and SSH settings.
Browser privacy stack:
Hardened Firefox/Brave/Tor Browser profiles, containerisation, cookie controls, and privacy add-ons.
Default blocking of third‑party cookies and fingerprinting protections.
Network-level privacy:
Configure DNS over HTTPS/TLS and optional privacy routing (Tor for sensitive flows; VPN if preferred).
Secure update pipeline:
Ensure package manager uses signed repositories only.
Configure unattended security updates with manual review for major upgrades.
Performance revival:
Lightweight desktop environment, disabled unnecessary services, kernel tuning.
Guidance and optional installation of an SSD (recommended for dramatic speed gains).
Optional extras: SSD/RAM installs, hardware cleaning, screen/keyboard replacement, mobile privacy installs (GrapheneOS on compatible Pixel handset) — priced separately.
Why this restores speed and privacy
Lightweight Linux removes OEM bloat and background telemetry processes.
Full-disk encryption + minimised logging protects local data if the device is lost.
Signed package updates reduce supply-chain risk.
Blocking cookies and trackers stops ad networks and brokers from building device-tied profiles.
Pair it with GrapheneOS on Pixel for mobile privacy
For mobile privacy, pairing your secured PC with a Pixel device running GrapheneOS gives a strong, privacy-first ecosystem. GrapheneOS reduces built-in tracking and adds robust sandboxing and permission controls. We can advise on or install GrapheneOS on compatible Pixel devices as an add-on service.
Realistic expectations & transparency
We minimize metadata and stop device-based cookies, but cannot erase all traces created by external services you choose to use.
Some sites/apps may break with strict blocking; we’ll configure safe exceptions where needed.
Hardware parts (SSD/RAM) are additional costs unless included in a custom quote.
Pricing
Standard privacy & performance upgrade (software, hardening, tuning, basic backup) — $200–$300 depending on machine complexity and options.
Hardware upgrades, enterprise integrations, or custom development incur add-on fees (itemized quote provided).
One-off service with optional follow-up support plans.
Who this is for
Journalists, activists, lawyers, and privacy-conscious users.
Home users with older machines who want a fast daily driver.
Anyone who wants a secure, transparent setup without invasive telemetry.
We are very aware that there are thousands of people who are entering this space and struggle to find and real help securing things across the board. Our clear and straight forward approach is to simply utilise existing equipment where possible and provide exact and literally layers of performance as needed to make your transition seem-less and cost effective. We are building training videos at this point also which will go live asap.
Stay safe, stay private and stay strong,
Nigel
